ARoll creates beautiful, unique accent walls suitable for every wall in your homes and offices: living room, dining room, bedroom, office, and more.

If you run a business and are looking to spruce up your front desk, you’re in luck. Did you know that we also design and install parametric desks and tables for larger office spaces?

Parametric desks are perfect for larger office spaces as they create a functional statement piece that everyone will notice when they enter your office.

What is a parametric desk?

A parametric desk is a large statement desk for the reception desk or front office of a business, or even for a large table in a boardroom. The desk is made up of a series of curves or shapes called parameters. These curves and patterns are designed by a computer and 3D printer or machine.

There are two different ways to print parametric designs:

Additive manufacturing

Additive manufacturing is a method of 3D printing which creates 3D objects by depositing materials in layers. Design information in files is used to directly print the design.

Subtractive manufacturing

On the other hand, in subtractive manufacturing, the design is carved out of a block of materials, using 3D rendered instructions and a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine.

So, how do we do it here?

At ARoll, we use a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine to carve our designs, which are created with 3D software. This is a form of subtractive manufacturing.

What is a CNC machine?

A CNC machine is a large, computer-operated machine which takes the information we create in a digital file and cuts the design out of a block of material. It does this by rotating tools around several axes and following the code created in a 3D program by the designer.

Technology like this means that little human supervision is required for CDC machines to operate. The CNC machine can create very precise designs and cuts that can be difficult for the human hand to make. With the expertise of the ARoll team, we design a unique desk in our 3D software, then print it with our CNC machine to ensure total accuracy.

Now you know a little more about parametric desks and the technology used in our design process.
