Now that it’s cold outside, it’s the perfect time to make a cup of hot cocoa, turn on some Christmas music, and spend some quality time decorating with your family. The holidays are a perfect time to focus on your beautiful mantelpiece.

If you enjoy the holidays, you’re probably thinking about how to decorate your fireplace for this festive time of year. We created this list for some ideas of ways to make your mantelpiece look extra festive this holiday season.

Classic stockings

You can’t go wrong with the classic when it comes to Christmas decorations: a big red and green wreath, some candles, and your family’s stockings will make for a cozy display regardless of your home’s other décor. This display always adds to the ambiance of the room around the holidays and makes guests and family alike feel welcome and warm.

Miniature village

A miniature village is a great idea if you want to do something different with your mantel

this year. You can make your own little houses and trees as a Christmas craft project, out of cardboard or even gingerbread! Or buy miniature village pieces that fit with the look you’re going for. Add bottle brush trees and even little figurines to complete the scene.

A rustic mantel may fit with the look and feel of your home better than something contemporary. Go for a farmhouse look by mixing gingham and plaid stockings with traditional colours. Try vintage and antique pieces around and on the mantel, or even a pair of antlers if you have one in the home.

Flowers and greenery

Florals are a wonderful, simple way to dress up your mantelpiece. Poinsettias, holly, and a pine garland will always make your mantel look festive. Red flowers of other varieties are always a nice touch. Check out your local flower shop for some inspiration.

You might prefer a more modern, contemporary look. In this case you should decorate with metallic colours and whites, blues, and pale pinks. Adding these colours not traditionally associated with the holidays but doing so in a tasteful way will make your mantel look modern and sophisticated. Try a wreath made out of white branches or feathers.
